Kill a hung app

Goal. An app stopped responding. Stop it without hunting through a process list.

process find with one match, and kill refusing an ambiguous name
aos process find Calculator; aos process kill Chrome
Terminal window
aos process find Calculator
aos process kill Calculator
aos process kill Calculator --force

By process id, when the name is ambiguous:

Terminal window
aos process list --filter=chrome
aos process kill 4821

Relaunch afterwards:

Terminal window
aos launch Calculator --wait

Calculator is frozen. Kill it, force if needed, then open it again.

  • kill by name only works when the name is unambiguous. With several matches, aos refuses and shows them. Pick a pid.
  • Plain kill asks politely. Apps can ignore it. --force cannot be ignored and loses unsaved work.
  • process find matches substrings. find Chrome matches helper processes too.
  • Killing an agent’s own session kills the agent. Check the pid belongs to the app, not to the terminal running it.
