Check machine health

Goal. Before handing a machine to an agent, or when something feels off, get the facts in one go.

aos doctor with every check ok
aos doctor
Terminal window
aos doctor
Terminal window
ok registry 97 of 99 commands available on darwin
ok telemetry recording to /Users/you/.local/state/aos/telemetry
ok display available; GUI commands will run
ok permissions accessibility and screen capture granted
ok windows 16 windows visible
ok screenshot captured 2895667 bytes
ok clipboard round trip succeeded
ok packages homebrew
ok plugins 0 external commands across 37 directories

Anything not ok prints what to run to fix it. Then the hardware and network:

Terminal window
aos system info
aos battery status
aos power status
aos network status
aos network ip
aos display list

Script it:

Terminal window
aos doctor --json | jq '.[] | select(.status != "ok")'
Battery, power, network and system facts
aos battery status; aos power status; aos network status; aos system info

Run a health check on this machine and tell me anything that is not ok and how to fix it.

  • doctor does real work. It round-trips the clipboard and takes a screenshot. Do not be surprised by the brief flash.
  • On a headless box, display and permission checks report accordingly. That is expected, not a failure.
  • battery status on a desktop reports that no battery is present. battery present exits 1 there, which is useful in scripts.
  • network wifi prints the joined network name. It is blank on wired connections.
